Safari Overview

This is the perfect trip for those people stuck in Windhoek over the weekend and looking for a short getaway or for those who are visiting Namibia with limited time and do not want to miss the absolute highlight this country has to offer. 1 night spent camping at Sesriem with the morning exploring the dunes of Sossusvlei. Departs Saturdays with a minimum of 4 people.

Departure from Chameleon Backpackers and Guesthouse at 07h00 sharp for our journey to Sesriem via Gamsberg Pass and Solitaire aiming to arrive in the desert by 13h00. We set up camp and have lunch before visiting Sesriem Canyon and then you will be dropped at Elim’s Dune for sunset and a refreshing 30 minute hike back to camp, where your driver is preparing dinner over the campfire and we recommend an early night. Overnight in tents on twin share basis or at Sossus Dune Lodge in luxury bungalows with en-suite facilities. Both Sesriem Camp and Sossus Dune Lodge have a bar, restaurant and swimming pool. (L,D)

Approximate distance 340kms

We rise very early this morning to break camp and head into the dune area 1 hour prior to sunrise for the 45 km journey to Dune 45, here we give you time to climb the dune and witness the beautiful changing colours of the sand dunes while the sun rises. By the time you return to your vehicle your driver will have prepared a basic continental breakfast to replenish your energy levels for the walk into Dead Vlei and to climb the Sossusvlei Dunes. The 4x4 transfer is required to allow maximum time to explore Dead Vlai and the pans of Sossusvlei. Our lodge based clients will join their early morning excursion to Sossusvlei with an experienced guide from Sossus Dune Lodge and explore the dunes from the comfort of a 4x4 vehicle (please note that the excursion into Dead Vlei is still on foot) before returning to the Chameleon safari vehicle for lunch and the long trek back to Windhoek. The journey takes you via the Naukluft Mountains and Rehoboth to arrive back in Windhoek late afternoon, where you will be dropped at your accommodation establishment (B,L)

This is a highly focused safari covering approx 800 km over 2 days, therefore many hours are spent travelling to and from our destination. Therefore we DO NOT recommend this tour for those with more time to explore this fascinating and unique area or are liable to feel disappointed due to the short nature of this safari, alternatively please consider our 3 day Sossusvlei Express departing from Swakopmund every Friday or the 4 day Swakopmund and Sossusvlei Adventure every Thursday.

Approx distance 420kms
