Not everyone wants to camp, and that is fine. An accommodated safari lets you experience Namibia’s landscapes, wildlife and long-distance routes while ending each day with more comfort.
Instead of sleeping in tents, you stay in lodges, guesthouses or similar accommodation. The exact style depends on the route and price level, but the aim is the same: make the journey easier without losing the safari experience.
Why choose an accommodated safari?
Accommodated safaris work well for travellers who want a guided route but prefer a bed and bathroom at night. They are especially useful on longer routes, where a little extra comfort can make each travel day feel easier.
They are also a good choice for travellers who are new to Africa, travelling as a couple, or simply not interested in camping.
What is the experience like?
The day-to-day rhythm is still similar to other safaris. You travel between destinations, stop at viewpoints and highlights, take part in included activities, and enjoy guided game drives or scenic drives depending on the itinerary.
The difference is mainly in the evenings. Instead of setting up camp, you check in, settle into your room and have more personal space.
Lodge safari or camping safari?
Camping safaris usually offer better value and a stronger outdoor feel. Accommodated safaris cost more, but they offer extra comfort and convenience.
Neither is automatically better. It depends on what you want from the trip. If campfires, simple facilities and sleeping close to nature appeal to you, camping may be the better fit. If comfort and privacy matter more, choose accommodated.
Where can accommodated tours go?
Accommodated routes can cover Namibia’s classic highlights, including Sossusvlei, Swakopmund, Damaraland and Etosha. Longer tours can add the Skeleton Coast, Lüderitz, Kolmanskop, Fish River Canyon or other regions.
Accommodation availability can shape the route, especially in remote areas. That is one reason to book early if your travel dates are fixed.
