Itinerary

Day 1 - CHAMELEON BACKPACKERS, WINDHOEK

On arrival at Windhoek International Airport you will be transferred into the city where you can check in to your accommodation. Today is a free day, although we do recommend that you arrive prior to 14h00 so you have time to settle in, take a walk, or check in with the safari office should you have any questions about your trip. Tonights accommodation is at Chameleon Backpackers in a private room with en-suite bathroom. Dinner tonight is at own expense, and we recommend joining in the braai (bbq)& quiz night hosted in the backpackers, a great way to get to know other travelers. (no meals today)

Day 2 - AMANPURI TRAVELLERS LODGE,SWAKOPMUND

Pick up from Chameleon this morning is from 6h00 by a local shuttle company to take you through to Swakopmund. The journey time is around 5hours to the coast, and you will be dropped at Amanpuri Travellers Lodge, your home for the next 2 nights. After settling in, grab some lunch at one of the many downtown cafes (at own expense) and enjoy some free time this afternoon to join an optional activity such as quad biking or sky diving, or rather wander the small town on foot and enjoy the beach. Overnight in twin share rooms with en-suite bathroom. Dinner tonight is included at Hafeni’s Cultural Restaurant, and a great chance to try some local delicacies, and meet the rest of your group. (BD)

Day 3 - AMANPURI TRAVELLERS LODGE, SWAKOPMUND

A full day today to enjoy all the optional activities that the Skeleton Coast has to offer. For the adrenaline junkies, this could be flying down a sand dune head first at 60km/hr, sky diving over the desert, or 4x4 across the dunes all the way to Sandwich Harbour or for those that prefer something a bit calmer, it could be a living desert tour, kayaking with the seals, a dolphin cruise in Walvis Bay, or a stroll around the town enjoying the curio shops and café that Swakop is renowned for. Either way, enjoy the weekend at the coast and the chance to sleep in a real bed. Overnight in twin share rooms with en-suite bathroom with lunch and dinner at our own expense today. (B)

Day 4 - SESRIEM, NAMIB NAUKLUFT NATIONAL PARK

Pick up from our accommodation this morning is from 8h00 where we will meet our guide & group. We then make our way south to the port town of Walvis Bay where we stop in at the lagoon, a great chance to meet the flamingos, and learn more about this important wetland site. We then drive through the Namib Desert via the Kuiseb Pass and Solitaire, arriving at our camp late afternoon and we can set up our tents and enjoy the sunset. Pool and bar available. Dinner prepared by our guide and an early night is recommended. (LD)

Day 5 - SESRIEM, NAMIB NAUKLUFT NATIONAL PARK

A pre-dawn departure from camp this morning means that we can enjoy the dunes at first light whilst the temperatures are still cool. We drive down an ancient river bed surrounded by towering dunes, making our first stop at the famous Dune 45, where we can climb to the top and enjoy the sunrise. On descent, enjoy some breakfast, before continuing on to the 2x4 parking (around 55kms) and taking a 4x4 shuttle into the Sossusvlei area to appreciate the beauty of this place in early morning light and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the region. We explore this unique area on foot before heading into Dead Vlei with its large expanse of bleached cracked clay and skeletal camel thorn trees, contrasting with a backdrop of huge dunes with their ever-changing colours before taking the 4x4 shuttle back to our vehicle. We return to Sesriem for lunch and a swim and late afternoon we visit the nearby Sesriem Canyon, one of the few permanent water sources in the area. Overnight camping, with dinner prepared by our guide. (BLD)

Day 6 - OANA NATURE RESERVE

Another early start this morning with a long drive from Sesriem to the deep south of Namibia. Today’s journey takes us past the Naukluft & Tsaris Mountains before travelling through Maltahohe, Gibeon and Keetmanshoop, stopping en-route for lunch and a leg stretch. We aim to arrive at Oana late afternoon where we can settle in to our home for the next 7 nights. (BLD)

Day 7 - 12 - OANA NATURE RESERVE

The next 6 days are spent on the Oana Nature Reserve, a 45,000 hectare reserve of breath-taking mountainous semi-desert encompassing 50km of the lush Orange River; a paradise refuge amid the extensive hues of orange and red rocky and sandy plains forging the remarkable Nama Karoo biome.

The aim here is to ecologically restore ex hunting/farmland in southern Namibia through wildlife conservation initiatives. These conservation projects are driven through adventure conservation expeditions for those seeking a wilderness refuge. The programs are a mix of conservation (manual work and research), community development, adventure endeavors and ultimate relaxation and it offers the quintessential opportunity for anyone seeking to escape the grid and embark on an extraordinary journey.

Our stay will include being part of the rewilding and conservation project from large mammal game counts, leopard monitoring, nocturnal biodiversity surveys and reptile surveys, to some recreational adventures such as mountain biking, fishing, birding, swimming and rock scrambling up Jenga peak, to sundowners and star gazing. The list is endless and there is no limit to the adventures to be had. When we aren’t out exploring and adventuring we can spend our down time relaxing at the swanky Bedouin style base camp, complete with plenty of space for yoga, slacklining, volleyball, baseball, reading, or for some rest and relaxation should we wish to unwind after a busy morning or afternoon of activities.

Accommodation is provided in twin share tents with plenty of space to unpack and feel at home for the 7 days. There a western style flush bathrooms with hot running showers everything you need to maximize your comfort.
