Spend a couple of hours with a San family whilst learning how they hunt, find food, water and medicine with traditional skills. Then, after a short walk through the bush, you have the chance to learn some of their traditional songs and dances or find out how they are learning to balance traditional life in the modern world.
These traditional skills are passed down from generation to generation, and the San families take it in turns to come into the area from as far as the Tsumkwe region, where they spend up to 3 weeks at a time in the Windhoek area sharing their skills with visitors to Namibia.
This 1 day activity is an excellent way for the San to preserve their knowledge and to earn a living through tourism as well as ensure that they young San people are also developing their ancient skills and not losing these traditions when attending western style schools.
On departure from Windhoek, enjoy a 1hour scenic drive out of town to the Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary. From here, we join a local guide for a short but fascinating walk through the bush. Here you have the chance to learn everything from identifying poisonous vs medicinal plants, finding water, building a fire, trapping animals, etc. Then, return to the village where you can see how the San communities are built, listen to some of their traditional songs and dances, or find out how they are learning to balance traditional life in the modern world.
