Arriving in Swakopmund mid afternoon we will have time to explore this quaint seaside town on foot and our guide will be happy to recommend a good restaurant for your evening meal (own expense). We will also meet up with the guests coming from Etosha who will join us on our adventure to Sossusvlei. Overnight accommodation on a twin share basis with en-suite facilities.

A light lunch will be provided which will be available in the vehicle and you can help yourself. We arrive at our camp late afternoon and have a chance to relax and enjoy the views before taking a short walk for sunset looking over the Naukluft mountain range. Overnight is based in twin rooms with en-suite bathroom facilities. Dinner is prepared by your guide over an open fire.
Day 3: Saturday Desert Camp, Namib Desert
Dawn departure from camp to arrive at the park gate for sunrise. We drive down an ancient river bed surrounded by towering dunes to the 2×4 parking (around 55kms) and take a 4×4 shuttle into the Sossusvlei area to appreciate the beauty of this place in early morning light and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the region. We explore this unique area on foot before heading into Dead Vlei with its large expanse of bleached cracked clay and skeletal camel thorn trees, contrasting with a backdrop of huge dunes with their ever-changing colours. We can either walk or take the 4×4 shuttle back to our vehicle. As we drive back to our accommodation we will stop at the famous Dune 45 and climb this dune if we wish or just wander around the base. We return to Sesriem and visit the nearby Sesriem Canyon, one of the few permanent water sources before arriving back at our lodge late afternoon to watch the sunset over this spectacular desert.
Day 4: Sunday Windhoek – End of Safari
Early morning breakfast before heading to Solitaire where we join a local guide to observe cheetahs currently in captivity with the hope to re-introduce them into a large reserve. We return to Windhoek via the Naukluft Mountains and Rehoboth. On arrival in Windhoek, mid afternoon, you will be dropped at your accommodation of choice.
For those flying out, a transfer can be arranged (at an additional cost) to the International Airport for your onward flight, or to the bus terminal for your overnight bus. For those flying today we do NOT recommend booking any flight departing prior to 17h00 in case there are unexpected delays returning from safari.
Word Of Mouth
The 4D/3N desert tour was great! Our guide worked tirelessly to ensure we got to do everything on the itinerary and feed us with delicious food. Accommodation was also pleasant.
When our Air Namibia flight from Victoria Falls to Windhoek was cancelled, the Chameleon staff (thanks Jessica) stepped up to the mark and kept in contact with us until we eventually arrived the next day. They organized a pick up from the airport, alternative accommodation in Windhoek for the night and then another driver to take us to Swakopmund where our group had spent the first night. We were then able to do the last 3 days of our 4 day tour to Sossusvlei region. We were so pleased that we hadn’t missed out on the highlights of the tour: the gigantic sand dunes and the dead tree desert. Our guide and driver, Willem, was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful in every way. He never failed to point out interesting things as we went along. Our accommodation in the desert camp was very comfortable. The meals that Willem and his assistant guide, Abram, prepared were delicious.
I had a wonderful trip. Tulimo was excellent guide, a friendly, knowledgeable and great personality, and made all the difference with this tour. Truly a special experience; travelling through the beautiful landscapes of Namibia with Chameleon Safaris was a genuine pleasure.
