Most visitors to Namibia will find themselves spending a day or two in the capital city of Windhoek. The town boasts several good restaurants, some shopping malls and generally is a comfortable place to live, BUT it’s not the most exciting city in the world. That’s where Chameleon Safaris comes to the rescue with our range of day trips and activities – which will keep you entertained while you wait for your Namibia safari or self-drive adventure to start.
To help you choose the ideal day trip in Windhoek, here is a brief description of each of these. The first one hundred people to enter the discount code BLOG10 when finalising your online booking, you will receive a 10% discount on the activity.
Full Day: Visit a local wildlife sanctuary (about an hour outside of Windhoek), where you will interact with researchers and ecologists and participate in the daily routine. Activities may include feeding orphaned animals, monitoring carnivores or visiting camera traps.
Half Day: As the name implies, on this half-day safari, you get to witness the feeding of lion, leopard, cheetah, wild dog and caracal, at beautiful wildlife sanctuary east of Windhoek.
Half Day: A short drive north from Windhoek is the majestic Durstenbrook Game Farm. Here you will witness the feeding of leopard and cheetah (which offers fantastic photographic opportunities) and participate in a game drive around the property. On the drive, you are likely to see herds of wildebeest, springbok to kudu, oryx, giraffe. The day ends with a visit to the local pod of hippos.
Half Day: A short drive gets us out of Windhoek and into one of the local mountain ranges. Your guide will explain the local fauna and flora to you during the 3-hour walk (around 8km). If you are lucky, you may encounter wildlife such as kudu, gemsbok or red hartebeest while walking.
Half Day: In partnership with a Namibian musician, Ees, we offer a Windhoek township trip in a classic VW Combi mini-bus. It's a positive experience visiting local markets and sampling traditional food and drink. Our guides will also share their experiences and explain the historical aspects behind the creation of these 'townships'.
Half Day: A more 'traditional' experience than that offered on the Namflava trip. You will visit the historical city centre of Windhoek (with its German colonial architecture) and the Katutura Township. This tour also visits local markets and food stalls and explains the historical creation of the city of Windhoek.
Full Day: Enjoy a day of yoga in the Namibian veld. A well-known Namibian Yoga instructor will lead you through a variety of poses surrounded only by the sounds and smells of Namibia.
